Phone Line For My Security System?

Do I Need a Phone Line For My Security System?

ATP Alarms is American Total Protection, and we have well over 20 years of experience in the industry – we have current customers going back to the 90’s! In the past, we rarely heard from these customers as their alarm has been working flawlessly over the years. As time has progressed, our customer’s wants, needs, and living conditions change. Due to the fast world that we live in, this is now happening more and more frequently.

One of the most common questions we receive is, “I am getting rid of my phone line. Is there anything ATP Alarms needs to do?” We always appreciate when customers give us notice before making a change to their home – it allows us to coordinate the best time for service (please call us prior to any renovations – electrical, painting, remodeling, etc.). In the above instance, the customer definitely needs to make some adjustments to their security system because without a phone line, the current system has no way of communicating with the central station. In fact, by getting rid of his or her phone line, the customer may have just created an opportunity to make the home more secure, let me explain.

Home security systems that are monitored through a phone line or VOIP are easier to bypass for an intruder as they only need to cut the phone line or the power. With a VOIP based phone system, your alarm will not work if you lose internet – think about how many times your internet goes down and restarts! Luckily, our industry has developed the technology that allows the alarm system to communicate with the central station through a GSM cellular radio. GSM monitoring is inexpensive and it can also save you money overall as you no longer need to pay for a phone line.

By adding our newest GSM radio, you have the option to sign up for Total Connect , Honeywell’s proprietary smartphone or tablet app that allows you to arm / disarm your system, control lights or thermostats, and even view cameras. My favorite thing about Total Connect is the ability to see if my system is armed. In the mornings I am often in a rush getting out the door and I sometimes forget if I armed my system. Being able to check my system on my smartphone provides a great peace of mind.

As a Honeywell authorized security dealer, this allows our company to focus on professional installations and customer service. We leave the development of our software and hardware to Honeywell, a Fortune 100 company trusted with our nation’s security. Honeywell relies on us to bring their product to the people.

If you would like to learn more about Total Connect, please visit us at ATP Alarms online. You may also learn more through navigating ATP Alarms’ website. I use the TC app for my home and it gives me great piece of mind knowing the status of my security system.

If you have any questions relating to updating or changing your system, please give our office a call to speak with a life safety specialist today – we would be glad to help you.

Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup.
