Home Alarm System Upgrade: A Modern Retrofit
Residential Alarm System Upgrade
Homeowners choose to buy an alarm system for a variety of reasons—theft, robbery, life safety (Smokes and Carbons, etc.). Depending on the wants, circumstances, and the needs of the customer, ATP designs a custom solution. If a homeowner or business has an existing alarm, American Total Protection does its best to utilize the working devices and infrastructure. In many cases, we can use everything. However, sometimes the devices are too old (smoke detectors and CO’s have a recommended replacement date) or wireless devices can be encrypted. ATP has the knowledge and experience to design systems that utilize existing components where applicable in order to control cost.

Homeowner Objectives
With a new job requiring more travel, this young Fairfield family wanted a functioning alarm system in the home. Ethan and Kesley’s home had three independent alarm systems from previous owners, all of which were not working properly.
One of the alarm systems at the home had hardwired doors and smoke detectors on it. The other two alarm systems were completely wireless. American Total Protection was tasked with designing a system that would cover ever entry point (doors and window) and also fire protection.
Security Solution
The Retrofit:
With a hardwired system in place, American Total Protection can reuse all the existing hardwired working devices. For example, if the doors and smoke detectors (low voltage) are hardwired, they can easily be tied into a new alarm panel that has hardwired capabilities. In this instance, we utilized all the wiring for the new keypad, door contacts, and the smoke detectors.
Modern Equipment:
We replaced the physical smoke detectors as they were beyond the recommended age of ten years. By utilizing the existing wiring, ATP is able to keep the labor cost down for the customer. The existing windows had antiquated wireless sensors that could not be used so ATP used slim wireless contacts for each entry point to cover every entry point.
Tailored Solution:
Many alarm companies refuse to takeover or utilize existing equipment in place. If it is in the best interest of the client and if the previous installation was done properly, ATP will utilize the existing equipment and infrastructure in order to propose a solution that best fits the clients’ needs a budget. There is no need for the client to spent money twice if the existing infrastructure and equipment satisfies industry codes and standards. Whether it is a new installation or taking over an existing alarm system, American Total Protection is the company for you.
