Life Safety in a Home

How Important is Life Safety in a Home?

As a Husband and a Father, I know I have to have a home security system. Systems by ATP Alarms are great for criminal acts such as Burglary and Robberies, and I can get alerts on my phone if anybody breaches my home. I have a Fire Extinguisher from them too, and they recertify my extinguisher every year so it works properly. However, a fire extinguisher is only good when you are awake and a fire is eminent. The real threat that I worry about is the silent killer, Smoke / Carbon Monoxide (C.O.)

The U.S. Fire Administration (U.S.F.A) has determined more than 3,400 Americans die each year in fires and approximately 17,500 are injured . An overwhelming number of fires occur in the home. Many of the causes are fires started from devices that are plugged in at night when you and your loved ones are sleeping. These same devices we depend on daily for other safety why we are awake but, can be a silent killer when we are sleeping. There are time-tested ways to prevent and survive a fire. It’s not a question of luck. It’s a matter of planning ahead. There are many ways to avoid this. Buy a smoke alarm at any hardware or discount store, never overload circuits or extension cords , when using appliances follow the manufacturer’s safety precautions just to name a few things. Plan an escape plan . Practice an escape plan from every room in the house. Select a location where everyone can meet after escaping the house. I have a three year old which seems all this is hard to achieve but, if you teach your children that fire is a tool and not a toy and fire can be dangerous they will learn to take precaution and have respect for it. These are all good thing to protect and educate your family .

My first line of defense for my family is to get monitored smoke / carbon monoxide detectors installed to my professionally installed and monitored security system by ATP Alarms . Now, when my smoke/c.o. detector, go into siren mode I will have ambulance and fire department role to my house for my family’s safety. Second, is get a proper escape plan for the family. Third, is to get a fire extinguisher that is certified by ATP Alarms . These are the steps that I start with my family. Get in touch with an ATP Alarms / ATP Fire professional today!
