Discover 8 Ways to Improve your Home Security Today!

There are many layers of security for the home. In this blog I will touch on some of the simpler ways to improve on your security there. Most burglars enjoy the cloak of darkness, but some will strike in broad daylight. Implementing these strategies will make a difference to you and your family. Try these 8 ways to improve your home security .

Lock your doors ; This may seem like a no brainer but many people believe their neighborhood is safe, but when you think about it burglars want to go to the “Nice” neighborhoods. The unlocked door is an invitation to a thief. A deadbolt with a longer throw will make for a more fortified door. Check this link for more info.

Lock your windows ; Again, I’m not trying to insult your intelligence but open windows are an invitation to a burglar, when you leave the home, please lock your windows.

Trim your bushes ; keeping the shrubbery trimmed and off the home will not only make it more difficult for a burglar to hide, it will also keep the bugs out too.

Close your garage door ; an open garage door is very inviting to burglars and can give them an idea on what to expect once inside. Even if the rest of your doors and windows are locked that open garage door may give them just enough cover to break in.

Reinforce your doors and glass sliders ; there are many aftermarket products designed to help your doors to be more secure. First access your doors vulnerability. Is the frame strong? Is there a window in the door? Glass doors can be lifted of their tracks easily if not pinned properly. Luckily there are solutions for all of these and as simple as a wooden dowel jammed into the track to prevent the door from opening could slow a burglar and maybe they will pass on your house opting for something with a bit less hassle.

Get floodlights with motion detectors ; not only will you surprise a burglar while they’re sneaking up to your house with some nice bright flood lights, but because you have them set for motion, you won’t use much electricity. Get the motion detectors with the photo cell on there so they know when it’s light out.

Get security yard signs and stickers ; These are great deterrents, and burglars will usually pass by a home with these. Make sure to put them on your front and back doors along with all of the windows.

Get a monitored security system and use it ; It would surprise you how many people have a security system but never use it. Nowadays with items like Honeywell’s Total Connect , you can operate your security system from anywhere. Have you ever wondered if the system at your house was turned on? Incorporating a monitored security system into a plan like I just explained here will help you protect who you love. AT ATP Alarms , we help people every day, from entry level security systems to security systems for police stations.
