Remember Your First Day?

Do you remember your first day on the job?

I distinctively remember mine at American Total Protection, home of ATP Alarms . Walking towards the meeting room to meet our authorized Honeywell trainer, the timeless saying was rattling through my head, “seen one, then you’ve seen them all”. Boy, was I mistaken. For all of you who still have your Nokia flip phones from 1999, don’t be alarmed (see what I did there), the standard basic security systems where you type “1,2,3,4, Alarm” still exist. However, within the first ten minutes I realized that home security systems have come a long way. After briefly learning about the new technology ATP Alarms had to offer, I knew my fellow Gen X & Y’s and I officially had a way to connect with a home security system.

Seeing as how I have a smart phone, I am incredibly tech-savvy. Don’t judge, you label yourself the same way. I am constantly looking at latest applications and trying to find something to relate to. This is where our Honeywell “Total Connect” app about comes into play. As a 25 year old, I can sometimes misplace the most important/basic things you can possibly think of; ie: my keys. Although, I may lock myself out of my apartment from time to time, there is one thing that I will never lose because it is glued to my hands, my smart phone. With the advancements made in the technology of security systems, all of our basic problems can be put to rest with Total Connect application.

The thing that makes Total Connect so appealing is the fact that you can make your system basic or complex and it will still be extremely easy to use. A basic Total Connect system will allow you to arm and disarm your system from your chosen device, whether it is an iPhone , Android , or Blackberry . This comes in handy for homeowners who have kids coming home from school or maybe someone walking your dog. Just have them text or call you when they have arrived so you can disarm your system. This is a simple and easy way to prevent those annoying false alarms and end the habit of dishing out your pass-code like it’s a plate of pasta Bolognese.

Now for all of you impatient people out there saying “where does the losing your keys part come into play”, this is where I hit you with the good stuff. Seeing as how the Total Connect app is Z-Wave friendly, you have the option to attach smart locks to your system. Have you ever watched one of those James Bond movies where he pulls out some crazy gadget and somehow unlocks a door? Well, all you Gen X folks here is your chance to act like you’re Sir Sean Connery and impress your gal by using your smart phone. With the Z-Wave technology you can attach door locks to your system that you can control from anywhere that you have internet or cell service. When it is all said and done, whether you’re looking for a flashy high tech or a basic bell and whistle system, American Total Protection has got you covered.

I hope you enjoyed this segment, next week I will focus other home automation and cameras that can also be used in the Total Connect set up.

Often security alarms have two communication paths—one that is primary and one that is backup. ATP Alarms encourages all customers to have a back up form of communication in the event the primary fails. We believe that the best is setup for fast and reliable communication is internet/WiFi primary with cellular backup.
